Hispanics Defecting from Obama in Huge Numbers

@Peter_Wehner 12.09.2013 – 10:45 AM

A few days ago I wrote that Barack Obama’s “coalition of the ascendant” was collapsing. I cited in particular a Harvard University Institute for Politics poll that found that among young Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 Obama’s approval rating is just 41 percent, down 11 points from a year ago.

Just after that poll was published, the Gallup organization reported President Obama’s job approval rating among Hispanics has dropped 23 points over the last 12 months, the most among major subgroups and nearly twice the national average. A year ago his approval rating among Hispanics was 75 percent; it’s now 52 percent. And in 39 subgroups listed in the Gallup survey, Mr. Obama has lost support in every single one over the last year.

This is yet more empirical evidence that the Obama presidency is at a perilous political moment.

In response, the president is trying to do several things: rally his base (by focusing on issues like the minimum wage), change the subject (to issues like income inequality), and attack Republicans (which Mr. Obama does habitually). This kind of short-term, tactical approach is basically worthless. It might win the president a news cycle or two. But his presidency is in disrepair for fundamental reasons and because of fundamental flaws–and unless and until they are corrected, the president will discover that as bad as this year has been, next year will be worse.

Revive Your Home With Inexpensive Fixes, No Hammer Required

Revive Your Home With Inexpensive Fixes, No Hammer Required

Revive Your Home With Inexpensive Fixes, No Hammer Required (332)

(NewsUSA) – Whether you’re updating your home for your own enjoyment or to attract potential buyers, the thought of home improvement can send some people running for their hammers and others running from them. Before you get a hammer involved, or any other serious home-improvement tool for that matter, think about making small changes. You may be surprised how just a few inexpensive, and quick, home fixes can improve the mood and value of your home. Here are several home-improvement tasks that you can complete in less than a day and on a limited budget.

* Color: A gallon of fresh, new paint will do wonders for any room. Neutral, earth-tone colors such as leafy greens, sky blues and cream-colored whites will all add a clean, serene touch. Additionally, a fresh coat of paint helps solve another home dilemma -; stubborn room odors.

* Scent: Speaking of odors, air fresheners are an inexpensive way to revive any space and make it welcoming to both your family and potential home buyers. There are many air fresheners on the market, and one that I like is Renuzit TriScents. The electric, scented oil air freshener has three harmonious fragrances that transition throughout the day. Each time the fragrances change, your home is subtly renewed with a new scent. For more information, visit www.triscents.com.

* Textures: Make your home feel good! Try updating area rugs, blinds or throw pillows to include natural fibers that add texture and flair to your home. Bamboo mats or faux painting techniques can make your home more appealing and make you feel good, too.

* Accessories: Clutter doesn’t add wonder to your home, especially if you’re looking to sell. So, what can you decorate with then? Try utilizing water features throughout your home. Many eye-catching fountains come in a variety of affordable sizes and will add the soothing sights and sounds of moving water to any area.

America’s Lost its Mojo? Think Again

America's Lost its Mojo? Think Again

America’s Lost its Mojo? Think Again (395)

(NewsUSA) – Let’s play a game.

Number of years it took to create the entire transcontinental railroad, which conquered mountains and deserts in opening the West to settlers back in the 1860s: 7.

Number of years it took to complete Boston’s infamous “Big Dig” highway project, which opened officials to cries of “boondoggle” as cost over-runs and design flaws mounted: 16.

No, this isn’t another story about how America’s lost its mojo. In fact, the same company that laid hundreds of miles of those railroad tracks, Union Pacific, is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and — while the public may accept politics-as-usual from their leaders — you don’t stay in business that long without consistently excelling.

“Practically everything that touches our daily lives moves on a train,” says president and CEO Jack Koraleski. “That includes grains and produce to feed families, concrete for roads, lumber to build homes, and chemicals to make our water safe for drinking.”

This year alone, Union Pacific (www.up.com) will invest a record $3.6 billion in infrastructure — “so taxpayers don’t have to,” as Koraleski notes — and hire about 4,000 workers to help U.S. industries transport their products both domestically and globally.

Part of that investment is to meet the huge demand, here and elsewhere, for corn and wheat grown by farmers in Iowa and Kansas. (U.S. corn yield alone is expected to exceed 170 bushels per acre by the year 2015.)

Another part is to help seamlessly move everything from cars to steel to plastic both to and from Mexico — the majority of it going south — which is our biggest trading partner after Canada.

And for those wondering what The New Big Thing might be to get the economy booming again, one thing is on almost everyone’s radar screen.

Shale drilling, it’s said, is America’s next Gold Rush.

And, yes, even as energy analysts go ga-ga predicting all sorts of bonanzas from the new technology that’s made it easier to extract fossil fuels from the ground — Citigroup puts the number of potential new jobs alone at 3.6 million — good, ol’ reliable Union Pacific is already busy shipping U.S. crude oil to Gulf Coast refineries short on pipeline capacity. As much as 100,000 carloads of crude by year’s end, according to the railroad’s estimates, plus as much as 230,000 carloads of steel pipe and frac sand used for drilling.

Need Home Improvement Motivation? Tax Break May Help

Need Home Improvement Motivation? Tax Break May Help

Need Home Improvement Motivation? Tax Break May Help (399)

(NewsUSA) – The “fiscal cliff” was averted, but what does this mean to homeowners? The answer: a lot. The bill, signed into affect on Jan. 2, restricts tax rates from increasing and, among other things, reinstates and extends tax credits for qualifying energy-efficient home upgrades between Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2013. Homeowners can earn up to $500 in tax credits with the purchase and installation of qualifying products.

“Now is an ideal time to check off some of those home improvement ‘to do’ items,” said Trey Hoffman, global product manager at Rinnai. “In addition to the tax break, homeowners reap the benefits of these energy-efficient upgrades for years, as these products can help reduce monthly utility bills.”

What qualifies as an energy-efficient upgrade? All products must meet certain efficiency criteria to qualify. A licensed contractor, builder or remodeler can help homeowners select eligible products, such as:

* Insulation materials, which help keep a house warm in the winter and cool in the summer, qualify if they meet 2009 International Energy Conservation Code requirements. The credit value is 10 percent of insulation material cost.

* Exterior windows and skylights, if Energy Star-rated, can reduce homeowner energy bills seven to 15 percent. A 10 percent credit can be earned when homeowners select Energy Star-qualified windows.

* A Tankless Water Heater can save homeowners up to 40 percent on their monthly energy bills. Qualifying tankless water heaters, such as those manufactured by Rinnai, have an Energy Factor (EF) of at least .82. A $300 credit is available to homeowners opting for a more efficient way to heat water.

“Homeowners don’t always have to sacrifice luxury, aesthetics and comfort when upgrading to energy-efficient products. This is especially the case with tankless water heaters,” added Hoffman. “Tankless technology affords homeowners the ability to enjoy endless hot water, while saving energy. The product’s long lifespan — nearly two decades — gives homeowners peace of mind knowing they’ve selected an energy-efficient product that will pay them back month after month for years to come.”

What documentation is needed to earn the tax credit? Homeowners need to file IRS Form 5695 with their taxes. They also need to keep receipts proving when the equipment was purchased and a copy of the manufacturer’s certification. Accountants and tax advisors can provide additional guidance. For more info on receiving the tax credit for a tankless water heater, visit www.rinnai.us/tankless-tax-credit.

Maximize Your Capital-Building Connections

Maximize Your Capital-Building Connections

Maximize Your Capital-Building Connections (320)

(NewsUSA) – Once businesses get over the hurdle of start-up costs and finding a reliable team of hard workers, the task becomes generating capital to maintain momentum.

Growth and revenue projections for a business should toe the line between ambitious and realistic. One way to achieve pragmatic business goals is to use conferences and networking to stay competitive and generate capital.

Industry conferences — like those orchestrated by Financial Services Exchange (FSX) — give companies an opportunity to meet independent broker dealers, fund managers, investors and other industry resources.

In fact, entrepreneurs of all levels said they’ve forged some of the best relationships of the past several years at FSX conferences.

“Presenting companies get to mingle with broker dealers and potential investors in structured and unstructured meetings. They have several days to make lasting impressions on key decision makers from firms nationwide,” says Judy Ensweiler, executive director at FSX.

According to fund managers, the most impact is usually made during the break-out and one-on-one sessions that follow the formal presentations. For FSX, the proof is in the pudding.

To date, presenting companies have raised more than $2.8 billion through the FSX conference network.

“Investor conferences like ours play a key role in raising capital for financing, publicity and more. Part of being able to connect for success is having the time and space to come in as strangers but leave as friends,” adds Ensweiler.

Being able to predict company growth with precision largely depends on investor opportunities, and the resources at a company’s disposal. Accurate growth projections help long-term profits and affect the value of company shares.

An FSX presenting company reported that their share price increased by a full 100 percent — after only one conference.

There are ways to generate capital and attract investors in an uncertain market, and industry conferences have helped do so for nearly 30 years. To sign up or find more information, visit fsx1.com.

Senior Housing Market Swells With Investment Potential

Senior Housing Market Swells With Investment Potential

Senior Housing Market Swells With Investment Potential (302)

(NewsUSA) – America’s elderly are one of the fastest-growing segments of the population. As a group, senior citizens over age 85 are expected to double between now and 2030. While people are wondering what Social Security will look like in the coming years, senior housing is another rising concern.

Some families are in a position to shelter older relatives, but those who don’t have that option are looking at nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Since assisted living is preferred five to one over nursing homes, it’s not too surprising that the market for new properties is expanding.

The demand for assisted living facilties will continue to surge as the population ages. Plus, it’s need-driven for elderly folks who can’t live alone due to certain conditions, like Alzheimers. It’s this demand that makes senior housing great for investment opportunities.

“Whenever we look at the rapidly aging population in America and the lack of meaningful new construction, we realize how strong the assisted living market will be for the next decade,” says Gary Langendoen, senior managing director of Madison Realty Companies. “The opportunity to expand assisted living properties by adding more beds and to include memory care sections in properties provides significant value-added opportunities to this asset class.”

Currently, small regional operators own the majority of stable assisted living establishments, or they’re of the mom-and-pop variety. According to Alexei Muniak of Xnergy Financial (www.xnergyfinancial.com), an investment banking firm specializing in capital structuring for emerging-growth companies, it’s simple — Madison Realty management sees a huge opportunity in assisted living real estate.

Currently, Xnergy Financial is helping clients, like Madison Realty Companies, set up the capital structure for success. If you’re interested in learning more, visit www.madisonrealtycompanies.com or contact Gary Langendoen at glangendoen@madisonrealtyadv.com. To learn more

Investment Help for the Small-Dollar Investor

Investment Help for the Small-Dollar Investor

Investment Help for the Small-Dollar Investor (378)

(NewsUSA) – For many adults, investing money and creating a healthy financial portfolio is some far-off dream that isn’t feasible until they have numerous assets or excess funds they know they won’t need in the near future. Some adults never feel the warmth of that security, and they’re left with few options in the face of retirement or sudden illness.

But nowadays, there may be a new source of investment help. Although traditional investment firms may deny a client with less than $100,000 in readily available assets, other financial services are designed for the small-dollar investor.

For instance, SaveDaily is a private-label platform that enables brokerages, banks and non-traditional financial service providers to provide quality services to small-dollar and big-dollar investors alike. Investors have the ability to buy shares in virtually any mutual fund regardless of income, account size or activity.

The SaveDaily model allows account holders to invest in nationally recognized mutual funds with no minimums or transaction fees. This gives modest investors the chance to save some money for retirement or other big life events.

Here’s some investing advice from the financial advisors at SaveDaily:

* Know the risks associated with each type of investment. It’s important to know what risks to expect before diving into any investment. Will the value decline over time? Is there any chance you’ll lose what you invested? What’s the market risk or possibility of inflation?

* Organize finances between savings and investments. Savings is money that you might eventually need if emergencies arise, such as car repairs or medical bills. Or, perhaps you’re saving for a down payment on a house or new car. Investing that money might not be wise. Investments, on the other hand, should have a long-term timeline, usually going toward children’s education or retirement.

* Find a strategy for asset allocation. You’ve likely heard the term “portfolio diversification,” meaning your portfolio should have at least three different types of investments — primarily stocks, bonds and cash. The Journal of Accountancy reports that 94 percent of investment performance was the result of asset allocation. This strategy will change over the course of your life, but figuring out what percentage of your portfolio should be stocks and what should be bonds must be a high priority.
